An artist's impression of Elisabeth Fritzl showed a woman aged beyond her 42 years by a lack of sunlight and terrible living conditions.

She looked more like a sister of her mother Rosemarie, 68, with white hair and pale skin.

Doctors said the 24 years she spent underground had taken a terrible toll on her appearance and health.

Josef Fritzl, 73, has admitted to keeping his daughter locked in windowless bunker for 24 years and fathering seven children with her, one of whom died shortly after birth.

Elisabeth, 42, and the children were finally released at the weekend, after the eldest of the children, 19-year-old Kerstin, was admitted to hospital in a critical condition.

Psychologists have said the family will likely need years to recover from its trauma.
