Well, Europe has its own history with immigration, and we have our own.
America's experience with immigration is far more successful. Typically after the 2nd or 3rd generations, the descendants of immigrants are assimilated as Americans.
I personally don't think the latest wave of immigrants are going to be any different. I live in the bay area, where minorities are the majority. The 2nd or 3rd generations of Asian, Hispanic immigrants are typically quite Americanized and there is a huge culture gap between them and their parents.
