Blacks Associated with Apes in Berkeley Study

I will comment on this later. But it is a sad commentary on the persistence of subliminal racial images.

Subliminal Experiments Uncover Deep-Seated Racism
by Kate Melville

New research by psychologists at Stanford, Pennsylvania State University and the University of California-Berkeley reveals that many Americans subconsciously associate blacks with apes. The findings also show that people are

George Bush's Biggest Mistake

Now this is a rich field, so right up front I admit there will be dissenting voices about my selection. Others might say that the mistakes are so huge and numerous that trying to find the biggest is an exercise in futility. Nevertheless I will make the attempt. At the very least it might start a good discussion.

My choice for biggest Bush mistake: US policy towards Russia.

Why? Because the

The global meltdown triggered a $145 billion government stimulus package dubbed Project Lifeline. Project False Hope is more appropriate. The stimulus was created and advocated by the banks that service half of the U.S. mortgage market ─ Bank of America, Citigroup, Countrywide Financial, J.P. Morgan Chase, Washington Mutual and Wells Fargo ─ all members of the so-called Hope Now Alliance. You bet

The Iraq War: A Case Study in Political Elitism and Deceit

The rhetoric of election season is here again. I pay attention to the newsletters issued by each campaign. Despite the differences in policy, the tone is the same. The word "we" and "you" is in constant usage. With every primary victory, the message broadcasted to each base contains the phrases "We did it!" or "You made the difference!".

Perhaps some may chide my cynicism, but I cannot but help

The press is all abuzz with the alleged controversy about the Democrat “delegates” from FLorida and Michigan. If you’ve been under a rock since August of 2007 here is a quick summary:

The Democrat and Republican parties have rules about when you can hold primary/caucus events for presidential candidate nomination. Additionally they have consequences for

Sorry, Senator McCain, there are worse examples of government waste than this grizzly bear study.

In fact, I think it's fascinating. Mystery writer Nevada Barr has given it a fictional treatment.

If McCain is going to invoke Teddy Roosevelt in his TV ads, do you suppose that he could imbibe some of TR's conservation

The Myth of Missing Aid

"The United States by far is the stingiest nation in the world for development assistance or foreign aid." ~President Jimmy Carter

It is a commonly repeated mantra that the United States does not do enough for the world's poor, ill, and underprivileged. Those who repeat this adage are quick to point out the many flaws of US foreign policy:

"The United States doesn't care

Only two months ago Senator Clinton was the inevitable winner. Now what?

Rush Limbaugh told Republicans in Texas and Ohio to cross over and vote for Hillary so as to keep the Democratic race as close and as bloody as possible. He might have gotten more than he wished for.

Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are now in a virtual tie, with Obama slightly ahead in popular support, and Hillary holding

OBAMA'S OWN RAINBOW COALITION

. . . Barack Hussein Obama's (BHO) on 2/28/08 proudly posted an 'open letter' on his blog 'addressed' to all Lesbians, Homosexuals, Bisexuals, Transgendered and Transvestites (LHBT). He makes significant promises to this allegedly‘discriminated' against, non-heterosexual 1%  of the population. He equates ‘discrimination' against the LHBT crowd as equal to that
