Sorry, Senator McCain, there are worse examples of government waste than this grizzly bear study.
In fact, I think it's fascinating. Mystery writer Nevada Barr has given it a fictional treatment.
If McCain is going to invoke Teddy Roosevelt in his TV ads, do you suppose that he could imbibe some of TR's conservation ethic?

The issue with the bear project is simple: it isn't the Federal government's job to be tracking the precise number of bears we have in Montana. You can assign that to the state government, you can assign that to various universities of the region. You can't assign it to the federal government.

McCain doesn't seem to have a good grasp on the economy. That much was evident when he was condescendingly chiding Romney for stating that business owners were leaders in our society.
