Romney Should've Kept It RealPosted by Grassroot Vizir in Super Tuesday, Mitt Romney, McCain |
So today, Romney decided to suspend his campaign. How tragic. Just a few months ago, Romney was on a roll. Plunging in millions of his own fortune into his bid, and looking quite presidential especially compared to the likes of McCain, Huckabee and Paul, Romney looked the part certainly. But after an absolutely embarrassing showing on Super Tuesday, we have to ask, What Happened?
Why did Romney's campaign fall apart so quickly? Well, I may not know everything but I think I have a clue as to why mighty Romney collapsed so quickly. Romney needed to stop acting like Rambo, who he wasn't, and started acting like who he really is, a suit, a CEO, a business leader. Romney played too hard to cater to the right wing conservatives, tried to portray himself as a War Chief ready to take on the hordes of Islamic terrorists, and it just didn't work. If anybody was going to vote for someone based on how tough they are in war, no one would choose Romney over McCain, who is a decorated war hero, a POW and a bonafide real life Rambo. Romney looks way too polished to even get his $600 Italian shoes dirty, let alone finish the dirty work on the terrorists. Also, Romney, in trying to cater too much to the conservative crowd, looked quite the fool next to Huckabee, a pastor and true blue conservative. Therefore, it wasn't a surprise that Romney had his proverbial ass kicked by both McCain and Huckabee during Super Tuesday, only winning in the liberal tainted state of Massachussetts and also in Utah, where his Mormon roots came through for him.
Romney should've portrayed himself, as well, himself. A business leader, a self-made multi-millionaire, someone who understands how to run a business. In this election, most voters are concerned about the economy and not about terrorism. Romney's act did not resonate. If he had instead played up his business credentials, which were very formidable, and sold himself as the moderate, level headed conservative who understand business and knew what it took to get this economy back on its feet again, Romney would've really put up a fight against McCain and possibly be dominating the delegate totals today. But instead, Romney put himself in unfamiliar waters and shot himself in the foot. With $30 million dollars invested himself, that was an expensive mistake. But it probably was not much more than what he earns in interest in a year, so we may just see him again in another few years.
