Wexler v. Cheney - McClellan's Testimony

In taking a tour through the blogosphere this weekend, I noticed an interesting trend in the types of postings I saw. It seems there is a fixation on two issues in particular: gay marriage and immigration. Whether in support or opposition, these two topics came up in alarmingly higher frequency than anything else. I agree they are important and relevant topics, but they’re certainly not the only things going on in the political world today, and particularly with same-sex marriage, what impact does it have on our daily lives?

Over in Washington, however, the House Judiciary Committee heard testimony from former Bush Press Secretary Scott McClellan on the leaking of Valerie Plame’s identity. Based questioning and testimony from McClellan, Florida Congressman Robert Wexler argued that Vice President Dick Cheney was the most likely candidate responsible for issuing the order to Scooter Libby to expose Plame. This, he suggests, is sufficient evidence to support impeachment proceedings against Cheney. If Wexler is correct, and in turns out that Cheney is responsible, than that amounts to a treasonous act, an outrageous act of betrayal against our country. One thing is clear – the arrogance and exceptionalism exhibited by top officials in this administration is disgusting. The President ran on a platform of cleaning up Washington and restoring moral character to the White House. His overwhelming failure has been exposed time after time, and has catapulted our country into disrepair. Impeachment proceedings against Cheney would be a first step in holding the administration accountable for its corruption and potentially illegal activities. It would send the message that administration officials are not exempt from the law, and the executive office is not a cover for top officials to pursue their own self-serving agendas, but rather an integral part of the governance infrastructure designed to serve the country as a whole.
